Race Directory and Life Updates

This is a shorter post than usual. I haven’t had time to work on much writing despite now being unemployed. But I need to stay consistent and maintain my status as a prolific writer. The main announcement in this post is that I have been working on an improved Tassie Trail Race directory. It still has some work to be done but it’s now functional enough to share. Otherwise this post is just a general life update. Keep reading to get a small dose of life happenings from me.

Tassie Race Directory

Ever since I started this site I have tried to maintain some sort of Tassie running race directory. It has taken many forms from a simple table to just plain text. It has never quite been up the the standard I wanted. There are many wordpress plugins to make directories but I like keeping my site simple so I never pursued them. But now, in the age of AI, I have, with the help of my friend Claude ‘vibe coded’ myself an interactive directory.

It looks okish, you can filter by distance and such. It’s a good start but I still have many tweaks I want to make to the design and overall aesthetic. But for the time being it works and it’s mostly up to date. Each event has links to the relevant blog posts from me about them. Many race reports and guides and hidden in the archives of this site so this is a way to bring them to the forefront.

Check it out and let me know what you think. I am very open to ways to improve the setup.

Unemployment Era

I finished up at my role at Haywards on Tuesday after 11 years or service. I was so ready for a change but still felt some sadness leaving the place I had spent so much time and grown up in. I started there as a baby Naval Architect, now I am a fully formed one. I have 2.5 weeks of free time till I start at my new role, I am so keen for the time off. After reaching a point of essential burnout, a few weeks is going to work wonders for my overall motivation and help me hit the ground running at the new job.

With all of my free time I have somehow felt quite busy still. Lots of running and a trip to Newcastle tomorrow to visit the Sister, Brother-in-law, niece and nephew is filling my time. When I get I get back I might try to pump out some content for the blog, but at this rate I will be too busy doing fun things. It feels like the year of change and I am enjoying it.

Personal Race Calendar

After Diverge it felt like I had an race drought. Well that drought isn’t going to last long. The calendar is filling with local races and ones further afield. This week I decided to enter Wonderland in the Grampians and I am close to pulling the trigger on Vietnam Mountain Marathon 100k. My calendar for the rest of the year looks as follows:

  • kTS: Knockers 11km
  • kTS: Tolosa Half 21km
  • Wonderland 50km
  • Hounslow 17k
  • VMM 100km
  • GPT100 Stage Race 163km

It looks like a lot. I guess it’s all part of being a prolific runner.

Wrapping Up

That’s all for today’s post. I fly to Newcastle in the morning for a few days. A non-running trip for once, although I am sure I’ll still get out for a few easy runs. Once I get the race directory working as planning I hope to make a kunanyi running routes directory. I was asked by a reader a long time ago to publish some good mountain routes but I kept running into the issue of how to present them. AI writing me code might be able to make my dreams become a reality.

I have been getting into posting a lot of reels on instagram, so if you’re interested in short form video content then check out my reels tab.
